The Cottage

A splendid stone-built annex to the impressive Old Farmhouse with extensive gardens and relaxation areas. Situated on the edge of Rowsley village, near Bakewell, the Old Farmhouse is a restored Derbyshire stone country residence. It’s location dates back to records of a property noted at the time of the Domesday Book, and had encountered noble ownership.

There’s an abundance of activities to suit all ages in the area, this cottage is equally ideal for couples or a small family and is close to many local attractions including Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Carsington Water, Castleton, Bakewell, Matlock and Buxton.

You enter the cottage into a modern kitchen with Belfast sink and granite work surfaces, leading to a sitting room with dining table which looks out to the beautiful old beech tree, garden and wooded hilltop in the distance.

A couple of steps down from the kitchen is the tasteful bathroom, upstairs is a spacious and light king-size en-suite bedroom, the charming twin bedroom is located in the next room.

Outside there is a sheltered and private courtyard with a garden table and chairs for your exclusive use, you are free to stroll the beautiful garden and croft which are teeming with birdlife.

Within the grounds of the owners’ home, there are family-friendly sheep and hens; with seating areas where you can enjoy the flora, spectacular scenery and garden wildlife.

Cyclists are well catered for as the cottage sits at the base of Rowsley Bar, which is listed in the top 100 cycle climbs in Britain.

The Peak Shopping Village designer outlet, recently purchased by Chatsworth House and the Bamford Auction House are just a few hundred yards away, a gastro pub and fine dining restaurants in the region are within walking distance. 

Within Rowsley village, Caudwell’s Mill dating back to 1874,  is a unique Grade II listed flour mill powered by water from the River Wye. Craft and art attractions surround the Mill, these offer the opportunity to view exhibits, displays and offer educational and retail opportunities. The Derwent-Wye Fine Art and Gallerytop galleries are also interesting places to visit.

The majestic Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are less than 3 miles away. A selection of multiple walks and trails are available from the door step where  you can soak up the local country side. 

Head a few miles in one direction to amble around the pretty market town of Bakewell or in the opposite direction to enjoy a ride in the cable car which takes you to the Heights of Abraham near Matlock Bath, or steam train at the Peak Rail or a horse and carriage ride, both attractions are located in Darley Dale near Matlock.

Other nearby local attractions include the Crich Tramway Museum, Carsington Water which is a lovely spot for a picnic, cycling or sailing, Dovedale for walking and cycling and the Tissington Trail, a 13 miles route starting in Ashbourne.

Wherever you go, there are many visitor attractions to see and activities to enjoy, making this cottage a perfect base for your holidays.
